This week was a BIG week and tons of visual updates! Up until this week it’s been a lot of building the bones of the bathroom. Now we’re onto the fun part! This week we knocked out the waterproofing system, the ceiling details, and 99% of the tile. We are definitely in the home stretch and I’m so excited to finish this space. Soak in the details below because this will be your final peek before the bathroom is FINISHED!

Waterproofing:
Because this is our first bathroom, we’ve never attempted to waterproof a space. After many hours of research we opted for the Schluter shower system. While it falls on the more expensive side of waterproofing systems – it’s also one of the best! I will say the actual application of the product was difficult for us as beginners and I likely wouldn’t recommend tackling it alone. Even though I watched over 10 hrs of YouTube videos (which always makes it look easy) we still struggled. Let’s just say, I was very happy to have this part of the project finished!
The Ceiling:
Last week we were able to get the drywall up on the ceiling – this week we constructed the beam that encases the plumbing from the second floor, installed the shiplap, and hung the crown molding. The previous bathroom had shiplap on the walls and with this redesign I wanted something special on the ceiling – you guessed it…SHIPLAP!
I was able to pre-paint the thanks to Wagner and our new FLEXIO 3500 sprayer. Because crown and shiplap have many grooves it was a huge timesaver to spray all of the pieces prior to installation. The sprayer was beyond easy to use and was a breeze to clean.
Tile:
I’m giddy this week because we finally have tile going down! Were just a few small cuts from finishing and then it’s grout time. We are so fortunate that Cory’s brother, DJ tiles professionally and was able to help us during this project. What would have taken us weeks on our own, took us three days as a team. I used a tile saw for the first time and it was much easier than expected! Sometimes I find lack of experience with tools can limit our DIY’s – take this as a sign to try something new.
We are working with Basco Shower Enclosures so we decided to tile the shower walls prior to the floor to give them ample time to take exact measurements. Terry, Basco’s technician came over earlier this week to ensure our new custom doors would be a perfect fit prior to production.
Now that the walls and majority of the floor are finished – we will be moving onto grout next week! Tile looks good before the grout stage but afterwards its perfect! We cannot wait to share the finished space, so make sure to come back next week for the final reveal.
