This week was an exciting week – the best part being the tile delivery from Jeffrey Court! I was able to to see the black hex tile in person but not the remaining pieces: Marble subway, black pencil tile, and white hex. Having all of the tile selections in person, laid out with other elements of the bathroom has really brought my vision to life! We are hoping to finish prep this week and start laying tile next!
Tile Reveal:
The Worst Part:
Now let’s talk about what I found as the most difficult of the project – finishing the demo. Now I’m not naive enough to say its not going to get tougher…but for now haha! Thankfully Cory was able to help me with the remaining part of the demo. An area that took me four hours to knock out, took him 10 minutes so it’s safe to say I’ll be saving future demo for Cory.
While the walls were a bit easier to disassemble – the original 1950’s pink cast iron tub gave us a run for our money. After a bit of research we learned that it’d be easiest to take the tub out by breaking it apart. After my failed attempt, Cory was able to break off chunks and with the help of our neighbor the tub was carried out. Here is the Youtube video that gave us that reassurance: Video Link.
In addition to finishing demo this week, I spent an entire day gathering materials to prep for tile. Because we have never done a full bathroom renovation, hours have been put into research – AKA YouTube. Here is my shopping list as a result:
- Toilet – I love the traditional details of this model
- Schluter Shower Kit – I loved this option because it comes with majority of the items you need to waterproof your shower in one kit
- Hardi Backer Board – This will be used prior to laying our floor tile
- Other odds and ends that will ultimately be the first trip of many to Home Depot!
I am anxious about the coming week due to moving plumbing and installing the waterproof system but also excited because once this step is completed, we’re on to tile!
Next week I’ll be finishing prep and hope to be able to start on the tile! I am so grateful to be apart of Jeffrey Court‘s Fall 2021 Tile Challenge and thankful for the other sponsors, FrogTape, and Wagner!
