With two dormers on our home, we are fortunate to have two nooks that are a perfect place for a window seat. I’ve always dreamed about having a cozy place to curl up and drink a tea or read a book. Cory’s late grandfather loved woodworking and built us one not long after moving in. Although the hard details were beautiful, I wanted to add textiles to create a cozy space I’d never want to leave.

The Cushion
Let me start by saying – I am a complete stranger to a sewing machine and knew I didn’t want to take on making a custom cushion. After doing some research, I came across Cushion Pros – a site that offers a wide variety of quality fabrics and cushion types. I opted for their Sunbrella Canvas fabric in Granite with a box edge. I also selected 4 in. thickness for extra comfort. Our pup, Cooper has since had an accident on the cushion and it cleaned up PERFECTLY!
You can order custom cushions but also fabric if you are looking to DIY your cushion. They also offer samples if you are unsure on fabric type and color!
Cushion Pros was kind enough to offer my readers 10% off your order when using Code: HONINGHOME
Lighting
I love how these sconces add an additional layer to the space and ambiance in the evening. There are areas in my home that I was looking to add a light fixture but didn’t want to run new electrical – that’s where the puck light trick comes in! First, mount your fixture directly to the wall. I then ordered battery operated puck lights with a remote and placed them into the shade – and TADA, you have a functioning fixture with no electrical involved!
Roman Shade
The window seat is in our primary bedroom so we opted for a blackout roman shade from PBTeen. I love that it blends in with the nook while adding texture to the space. This shade is also cordless and has a pull down loop behind. The quality of the white linen compliments the cushion and other textiles in the space.
