Window treatments have always been a sticking point for me and often are for others when designing a space. Most of our home has cheap vinyl blinds. Custom window treatments can be expensive, so we’ve been updating as we renovate each room. Most recently, we updated our dining space and knew we’d be swapping out our current blinds. After a bit of research, I came across Alva! Alva’s site was easy to navigate and also provided a lot of detail about the ordering process. They allow you to select up to 5 free fabric samples to try in your space prior to ordering – This was great because I wanted to see the textile in the space and how it’d align with the paint colors. #StartWithAlva
The Samples:
I was overly impressed by the quality of the fabric samples I received. I ordered two fabric types – Linen Blend and 100% Belgian Linen.
Here were my selections:
- Linen Blend – Oyster
- Linen Blend – Urban Grey
- 100% Belgian Linen – Oyster
- 100% Belgian Linen – Oatmeal*
- 100% Belgian Linen – Mist
* my selection
Final Selection:
Fabric: After comparing the samples to our paint colors SW – Eider White, and SW – Urbane Bronze, I selected the 100% Belgian Linen in Oatmeal which happened to be a perfect match to Eider White.
Style: Alva has four options for shades – Roman, Roller, Solar, and Zebra. I knew that a wanted a tailored fabric look that was neat. Once selecting Roman – you then have six style types that can fit any space. The flat roman shade felt like the cleanest look and ended up being our final selection.
I am so happy with the quality of our shade and the experience with Alva was a breeze. I’m already thinking about additional rooms in our home that are next for this major upgrade. I’d love to know what questions or hesitations you may have about putting custom window treatments in your home!
