If you’ve been around for the past few months you’ll know I started renovating our dining room and it has been quite the process. When the One Room Challenge announced its dates for the Spring Challenge, I knew it would be the accountability I needed to finish the space within the next eight weeks. I hope you will follow along to see how much this space will transform!

Mood Board/Design:
I knew I wanted this space to be dark in contrast with the rest of our first floor which is painted SW Eider White. I also wanted the space to be FULL of character and architectural details.
We plan to install wall moulding on three of the walls and adding a full wall of built-ins/bookcases on the large wall. The checkered rug will add a pop of pattern and whimsy – a good contrast to all of the traditional details.
Before:
So here are the listing photos! This room hadn’t changed much until a few months ago. Our dining room really served as a catch all. We didn’t utilize the space, and honestly, I can count on one hand how many times we ate in here and we’ve lived in our home for five years now. I am so excited to take this dated, beige dining room into a moody, modern, functional space!
The Plan:
Over the next eight weeks I will be sharing progress via the blog and @honinghome over on instagram. While work has already begun in the dining room – the wall of built-ins will take up majority of the time. We are also near finishing the archway that leads from the dining room to the kitchen. We hope to have the archway and majority of the trim work done within the next two weeks so we can begin the large wall.
What’s Finished:
Since beginning the space a few months back – here’s what’s finished!
- Three of the four walls will have the wall treatment below. The wall with the arch is the only wall that still needs that to be completed!
- The arch from the dining room to kitchen is complete on the dining room side but still needs to be trimmed out.
- The rug, light fixture, table, and chairs have all been purchased!
